Get Active Initiative for Parents
Be an Advocate. Build Community. Help Kids Get Moving.
Why Parents Are the Heart of the Get Active Initiative
The Get Active Initiative was created by National Academy of Athletics to bring communities together around one simple goal:
Getting kids active, confident, and healthy.
Parents play the most powerful role in this mission.
When parents advocate for movement, kids benefit—not just their own, but all kids in the community. The Get Active Parent program gives families simple, meaningful ways to support youth activity while helping build a healthier future.
What Is a Get Active Parent?
A Get Active Parent is a community advocate who believes:
- Kids deserve access to physical activity
- Sports should be inclusive, positive, and fun
- Movement supports mental, emotional, and physical health
- Communities are stronger when families get involved
You don’t need coaching experience or extra time—just a willingness to help spread the message that kids need to move.
Ways Parents Can Support the Get Active Initiative
Be a Visible Advocate
Help spread awareness in your community by:
- Placing a Get Active yard sign at your home
- Adding a Get Active bumper sticker to your car
- Wearing or sharing Get Active gear at school and community events
Small visibility creates big impact.
Refer a Friend or Family
Word of mouth is powerful. Parents can:
- Invite friends to enroll their children in programs
- Share camp and program info with other families
- Recommend NAofA programs to schools, PTAs, or community groups
Every referral helps more kids get moving.
Support School & Community Programs
Advocate for movement where kids spend their time. Parents can:
- Encourage schools to bring Get Active programs on campus
- Share information with PTAs, PTOs, and school administrators
- Help connect NAofA with local schools, churches, or rec centers
You help open doors that might not open otherwise.
Participate in Community Events
Get involved in fun, low-pressure ways:
- Attend or help promote community sports events
- Volunteer at camps or activity days (when available)
- Show up and cheer kids on
Your presence matters.
Why Parent Advocacy Matters
When parents get involved:
- Kids feel supported and confident
- Schools and communities prioritize activity
- Programs grow and stay accessible
- Movement becomes part of everyday life
This isn’t about selling. It’s about building momentum for healthier kids and communities.
A Movement Built on Families
The Get Active Initiative believes:
- Every child deserves the chance to be active
- Sports should build confidence—not pressure
- Parents are powerful change-makers
By becoming a Get Active Parent, you’re helping shape a community where kids are encouraged to move, play, and thrive.
