Unlocking Your Child’s Athletic Potential: RSVP with the NAofA

Are you the parent of a young student who you’d like to see become more athletic, excel in sports, or unlock their child’s athletic potential? At the National Academy of Athletics, we believe that the foundation for athletic success starts with four essential components—RSVP. While many of us are familiar with RSVP in the context of invitations, here it takes on a whole new meaning: Run, Speed, Vertical, and Power.

Your child’s body is like an all-terrain vehicle. But just like driving a car, learning to use their body effectively requires practice, skill development, & guidance. Running, speed, jumping (vertical), and power are not just buzzwords—they are the building blocks of athletic ability and are fundamental for success in any sport or physical activity.

What Does RSVP Mean for Your Child?

  • Run: Running is more than just movement; it’s about efficiency, coordination, and endurance. Proper running techniques ensure your child moves faster and with less effort, giving them a competitive edge and reducing the risk of injury.
  • Speed: Speed combines quickness and reaction time. In sports, being able to accelerate and change direction quickly can make all the difference. Developing speed helps kids stay ahead in both competitive games and daily physical activities.
  • Vertical: Jumping ability (vertical) is critical for sports like basketball, volleyball, and even soccer. It also reflects overall lower body strength and explosiveness, which benefit children in any athletic pursuit.
  • Power: Power is about harnessing strength and turning it into action—whether it’s kicking a ball, throwing, or simply pushing themselves off the ground after a fall.

How To Develop These Skills

Through play-based activities, we teach these essential skills in a way that engages and excites young athletes. Structured small sided games, sports general and specific challenge courses, and skill challenges not only keep kids active but also help them build these foundational abilities without even realizing they’re learning.

By mastering RSVP skills, your child gains more than just athletic prowess—they develop critical life skills:
  • Confidence: Mastering physical challenges fosters self-assurance. Kids who feel confident in their abilities are more likely to try new things and push through obstacles.
  • Resilience: Learning how to fall, recover, and keep going builds mental toughness and determination, qualities that extend far beyond sports.
  • Balance: Improved coordination helps them stay safe, navigate their environment, and enhance overall body control.
  • Teamwork: Many of our activities emphasize collaboration and communication, teaching kids to work well with others.

Why It Matters

These skills aren’t just about creating better athletes—they’re about shaping happier, healthier kids. When children feel capable in their bodies, they experience more joy in movement, take on challenges with enthusiasm, and develop a positive relationship with physical activity. They also learn valuable lessons about effort, persistence, and handling both wins and losses gracefully. Whether your child dreams of becoming a soccer star, a basketball MVP, or just want to have fun playing with friends, focusing on RSVP—Run, Speed, Vertical, and Power—sets them up for success in sports and in life. These core athletic abilities are universal and can help your child thrive in whatever activity they pursue.

My team and I at the National Academy of Athletics, have a mission is to empower the next generation of athletes by helping them unlock their full potential. We’re not just teaching sports skills—we’re shaping confident, capable kids who are ready to take on any challenge.

NA of A is filled with great mentors, and coaches. It truly makes me feel positive knowing the culture here has an impact on our players enhancing their skillset, mindset and overall health. Na of A especially makes it easier for me as a coach for when I am provided with all the proper equipment and gear to ensure the children/players have everything they need in order to play hard and have fun!

Aaron and his team are absolutely top notch and have a genuine passion for teaching kids’ valuable life skills through sports and play. They’ve developed a program that fills the gap in many communities for youth sports that isn’t focused on hardcore competition and crazy travel schedules. You’re awesome. Great job NAofA!

NAofA organized a Pickleball Camp in San Anselmo summer of 2025. My son and his friend attended and had a terrible experience. Due to this and the icky response from the owner of the camp, I highly recommend avoiding it.
First, while we
were told to arrive at 8:45, on the first day but the instructor arrived at 9. I called to inform the office and the owner (Ben) about the missing instructor, he told me that he would call her to find out what was the matter (she showed up not only after to let us all into the court). When I wrote to him and mentioned the lateness as part of the reason we would not be returning, he surprised me by retorting that he had “proof” she wasn’t late- until I reminded him about my phone call to him.
They have a “password” system to protect the kids, but the instructor hands you the pickup form when you arrive (which has the code written on it) so it’s pointless. Furthermore, When I arrived to pick up my kid, the instructor was rushing off to try and get a couple of the kids who had left the court entirely on their own.
My son and his friend were bullied by another kid throughout the day. Despite the “anti bully” policy, the kid was invited back the next day.
The kids told me that no instruction was provided at all about pickleball. They were given balls and rackets and there were no other activities or involvement to keep them engaged. When they asked to take a break because they were hot, the woman told them they had to keep playing. When I informed the owner about this behavior, he retorted that it was their policy and that many kids were “struggling to participate” that day which is why she refused the breaks.
This doesn’t seem like a camp that’s all that motivated to keep kids engaged or having fun, and the defensive/gaslighting responses of the director suggests that it’s not run in a way that promotes safety or fun, or holds its own instructors accountable.
It’s don’t recommend the Pickleball Camp at all, and wouldn’t trust their other programs.
